Malaysia, May 12–14, 2026: The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Culture (MHESC), represented by the Director-General of Higher Education and Science, Mr. Domingos Barros, accompanied by the President of the Polytechnic Institute of Timor-Leste and representatives from the Timorese private sector, participated in the international seminar “Closing the Gap Workshop 2026,” held under the theme “Anchoring Workforce Readiness Collaboration and Partnership” in Penang, Malaysia.

The event was organized by the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education, with support from the EU-ASEAN Sustainable Connectivity Package – Higher Education (SCOPE-HE) program.
The main objective of the program is to strengthen cooperation between higher education institutions and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) centers by promoting institutional capacity building and the transfer of academic and technical knowledge. The initiative also aims to better prepare university students and graduates by combining academic knowledge with practical and professional skills, thereby facilitating the attainment of professional certifications and increasing opportunities for entry into the labor market.
