The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Culture (MHESC), through its ASEAN Focal Point, participated in the 89th ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology, and Innovation (COSTI-89) Technical Meeting and the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Science, Technology, and Innovation (AMMSTI), held in Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
The delegation included representatives from the MHESC and the National Institute of Science and Technology, with the support of His Excellency Mr. João Câmara, Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
During the meetings, the delegation presented Timor-Leste’s progress and the Government’s priorities in the field of Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI), highlighting national policies aimed at promoting sustainable development. The delegation also emphasized the strategic role of STI in improving the quality of education, modernizing the agricultural sector, strengthening the healthcare system, and fostering innovation across various priority sectors for national development.
Timor-Leste’s participation in this important regional forum reinforces the country’s commitment to deepening cooperation with ASEAN Member States through the sharing of experiences, the exchange of knowledge, and the development of joint initiatives in the fields of science, technology, and innovation.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the ASEAN Member States reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening regional cooperation in Science, Technology, and Innovation by promoting sustainable, inclusive, resilient, and equitable development to improve the quality of life of the peoples of the region.
