HIS EXCELLENCY THE MINISTER OF HIGHER EDUCATION HOLDS FAREWELL MEETING WITH CAMBIDIAN SCHOLARS

Díli, 04/10/2024: His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Culture, Dr. José Honório, held a meeting with the students selected for the “Timor-Leste Cambodia Friendship Scholarship” in the MESCC meeting room, Colmera Díli.

The total number of students selected for the merit-based scholarship is 10, consisting of two (2) men and eight (😎 women, who will continue their studies in specialized fields such as International Business, International Relations, and Information Technology at the undergraduate level.

The selection process for the candidates was conducted through a merit competition announced by the Ministry via the official MESCC website in 2023, with a timeline that included stages such as document selection, interviews, and finally an IELTS test, a mandatory requirement set by the University of Cambodia for the mentioned program.

During the official ceremony, Dr. José Honório stated in his speech: “Congratulations to the students, and I urge you to study diligently and make the most of the opportunity provided by this scholarship offered by Cambodia to Timor-Leste.”

The Government of Timor-Leste had previously celebrated an agreement with the Government of Cambodia through a G-to-G Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), officially signed by His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Culture, Dr. José Honório, recently, thereby initiating cooperation in the higher education sector. In addition, at the technical level, another MOU was signed with the University of Cambodia, represented by the Director General of Higher Education and Science, Mrs. Maria Filomena Lay Guterres, for the implementation of cooperation in the field of human resource development, which also includes the execution of this scholarship program.

Participating in this meeting were His Excellency the Minister, Dr. José Honório, accompanied by the Chief of Staff of MESCC, the UPC Coordinator, as well as advisors and MESCC technicians.
