Dili, 16/04/2024: The Director-General of Higher Education and Science, Ms. Maria Filomena Lay Guterres, officially inaugurated the Workshop on the “Higher Education Data Management System of Timor-Leste (SGDES-TL)”, organized by the National Directorate of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Culture, for Higher Education Institutions, at the MSSI Hall in Caicoli, Dili.
The objective of this activity was to convey information about the implementation of the Database Management System and its progress to the Higher Education Institutions that are part of the said System. The next step of the implementation, related to data insertion, was also disclosed, which will be managed by each institution.
The System was developed in cooperation with UNTL and its implementation was launched by the Ministry in April 2023. Currently, it is implemented offline and 13 Higher Education Institutions have been integrated in this first phase. According to the plan, in the next phase, all Higher Education Institutions that are not yet part of this System will be integrated.
The intention is for it to be a central database system for all Higher Education Institutions in Timor-Leste, to ensure the credibility and effectiveness of the information. Its management will be directly controlled by the Ministry, and data sources will be entered directly by each Higher Education Institution.
The workshop speakers are from the technical department responsible for the development of the System, from the National University of Timor-Leste (UNTL). Among the participants were technicians and representatives from the 13 higher education institutions in the national territory.
