HIS EXCELLENCY THE MINISTER OF HIGHER EDUCATION PARTICIPATES IN THE 5TH IPB BETANO GRADUATION CEREMONY

Díli, 26/09/2024: His Excellency, the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Culture, Dr. José Honório, participated in the Solemn Graduation Ceremony of IPB Betano for the 5th time, held in the Multi-Purpose Hall of IPB Betano, in Betano, Manufahi.

A total of 114 graduates completed their studies, 66 men and 46 women. From this total, graduates were divided between two faculties: 57 graduated from the Higher School of Agronomy and Animal Production in the Animal Production course, and the other 57 from the Higher School of Engineering, specializing in Civil Construction.

According to the currently registered data, the total number of students at IPB is 841, of which 412 have already graduated. At present, 429 students remain active.

The President of the Polytechnic Institute of Betano, Prof. Dr. Acácio Amaral, Ph.D., in his speech, highlighted that the theme of the 5th IPB graduation ceremony is “From the field, foundations are strengthened for progressive sustainability in the areas of agriculture and engineering.” This theme is related to the important pillars of Human Citizenship in the field of Agriculture, which provide life and food to the world, and Engineering, which builds infrastructure. These two pillars come together to carry out the Sustainable Development process.

On the other hand, His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Culture, Dr. José Honório, in his address to the graduates and guests, stated that “in the coming years, the IPB must already be graduating its students with a Diploma 3 degree, because during this time, the Ministry team and I are working to establish the Basic Law for Higher Education, to provide access to higher education institutions for diploma degrees. The Minister also expressed his commitment that if the institution progresses well, it will be possible to raise the level from Diploma 3 to Bachelor’s and Doctoral degrees.”

The Minister also emphasized to the graduates and parents that “it is necessary to send your children to school because education is the fundamental pillar for developing the future of our nation.”

The activities included in the ceremony’s agenda were the graduation ceremony for the finalists, the launch of the Human Resources Management System and the IPB Digital Repository, as well as a visit to the construction site of the new IPB building, to directly observe the progress achieved.
