Dili, July 9, 2026 — The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Culture (MHESC), through its Partnerships and Cooperation Unit (UPC), hosted a delegation from Guangxi Normal University of the People’s Republic of China in the Ministry’s Meeting Room in Colmera.
The primary objective of the meeting was to strengthen cooperation between MHESC and Guangxi Normal University, particularly in the field of higher education, by promoting human resource development and enhancing institutional capacity in Timor-Leste. During the meeting, both parties exchanged views on opportunities for collaboration in strategic areas, including tourism, tourism management, design engineering, and scientific research.
The discussions also explored the possibility of establishing a technical cooperation agreement to expand scholarship opportunities for Timorese students pursuing master’s and doctoral degrees, with a particular focus on STEAM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics).
Another key topic was the proposal to establish a College of Hospitality and Tourism in the municipality of Lautém, in Lospalos. This initiative aims to support the sustainable development of Timor-Leste’s tourism sector by preparing qualified professionals, promoting applied research, and strengthening workforce competencies to meet the evolving demands of the labor market.
The meeting reaffirmed MHESC’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships with leading higher education institutions, enhancing the quality of higher education, advancing scientific research, and fostering innovation in Timor-Leste.
