MINISTER OF MESCC ATTENDED THE 16TH GRADUATION CEREMONY OF ISC

Díli, 30/12/2024: His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Culture, Dr. José Honório, attended the 16th Graduation Ceremony of the Instituto Superior Cristal (ISC), held at the Díli Convention Center. The event celebrated the graduation of a total of 982 students, including bachelor’s and master’s degree recipients.

In his official speech, Dr. José Honório emphasized that “the Government of Timor-Leste, through the Ministry of Higher Education, is focused on three main objectives to improve the quality of higher education in Timor-Leste: 1. Capacity building and training for teachers/lecturers, 2. Support for students, and 3. Support for universities.” These efforts aim to further strengthen the quality of higher education institutions across the national territory.

Additionally, the Minister addressed the issue of sexual harassment in universities and institutes, stating that the Ministry has discussed and approved zero-tolerance policies against sexual harassment in higher education institutions. This initiative seeks to combat sexual harassment in university environments, ensuring that universities become safe spaces for the learning process of all citizens.

During the session, the Minister also congratulated the graduates and the higher education institution, acknowledging this milestone as a significant step in contributing to the development of qualified human resources to serve Timor-Leste.

The ceremony also featured other notable participants, such as Dr. Edmundo Viegas as the scientific keynote speaker, the National Director of Science and Technology at MESCC, Mrs. Amélia Silva, the Executive Director of ANAAA, Dr. Nilton Paiva, representatives from other higher education institutions, security representatives, as well as the President of the Cristal Foundation, the Rector and his team, graduating students with their families, and representatives from relevant institutions.
