Laga, 28/11/2024: The Director-General of Planning and Finance at MESCC, Mr. Hernâni Viterbo da Costa Soares, accompanied by the Laga Post Administrator, Mr. João Freitas de Castro, led the National Flag Hoisting Ceremony during the celebration of the 49th anniversary of the Proclamation of Independence of the RDTL. The event took place in Suco Soba, Administrative Post of Laga, Municipality of Baucau.
During the official session of the ceremony, the Director-General of Planning and Finance, in his capacity as inspector of the ceremony, read the official speech of His Excellency the President of the Republic, delivering a message of honor and recognition to the Timorese people on this special day. In his speech, His Excellency President Dr. José Ramos-Horta addressed important topics, including reconciliation, geopolitical issues impacting national development and the well-being of the people.
The speech also emphasized Timor-Leste’s position within ASEAN, highlighting the country’s development on the international stage, supported by its diplomatic presence during the President’s mandate. Another key point of the speech was the significance of Timor’s history and the current freedom achieved, urging younger generations to draw inspiration from it and to continue investing in the nation’s future development.
The national celebration activities included a variety of events beginning on November 27, with a mass honoring the heroes at the Heroes’ Cemetery. On November 28, in addition to the formal ceremony, various commemorative activities took place, such as sports events, competitions, and other programs included in the official agenda.
The celebration in Suco Soba witnessed strong participation from the local community, including local authorities, veterans, representatives of the Ministry of Higher Education, representatives from institutions such as security and social organizations, as well as other entities contributing to the success of the events.
