Rabilau, October 16, 2024: A team from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Culture (MESCC), led by the Chief of Cabinet (representing His Excellency the Minister of MESCC), along with general directors, staff, and other department heads, participated in the official ceremony of the “Rabilau Festival 2024”, held at Rabilau Mountain, Suco Lirai, Administrative Post of Maubisse, Ainaro.
This program is an initiative of His Excellency the President of the Republic of Timor-Leste, Dr. José Ramos-Horta, with the primary goal of promoting the country’s tourism potential at an international level. The general objective is to boost the local tourism sector, particularly community and cultural tourism, aligning it with the natural potential and ecosystem found in Rabilau and the Administrative Post of Maubisse.
The Rabilau tourist site preserves cultural traditions and has strong anthropological value, maintaining a solid connection to the ethnic origins of the local community. Among the preserved cultural expressions are the uma lulik (sacred houses), rituals, and other original cultural practices. Additionally, the breathtaking scenery of Rabilau Mountain, with its preserved natural ecosystem, stands out as an attractive feature for visitors.
The festival involves various government institutions and local authorities, as well as non-governmental organizations. The festival’s agenda includes a range of activities, from musical concerts to cultural presentations.
Government members, diplomatic representatives, local and international tourists, and the community from the Municipality of Ainaro participated in the event.
