Díli, 25/09/2024: His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Culture, Dr. José Honório, together with His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister, Coordinator of Social Affairs, Eng. Mariano Assanami Sabino, participated in the celebration of the 10th Anniversary of INCT, in the INCT Meeting Hall, Balide, Díli.
In the opening session of the referred ceremony, with a speech by the President of INCT, Dr. José Cornelio Guterres, it was stated that the celebration of the 10th Anniversary is an important milestone for the Fifth Constitutional Government, presenting research reform data which highlighted that all advanced nations in the world develop through innovation based on research data. Based on this perspective, the leaders decided to establish an institute in the field of scientific and technological research.
INCT was officially established on March 3, 2014, and began its programs in 2019. The presence of INCT aims to promote science, technology, and innovation in order to foster research and contribute to the State in formulating policies and plans for national development. In its six years of existence, INCT has successfully completed 61 research projects, the results of which have been provided to the Government, as part of the Strategic Plan 2022-2025, and it has also produced a research ethics manual, serving as a guide for all researchers.
In his remarks, His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister, Eng. Mariano Assanami Sabino, emphasized that Timor-Leste is now part of various global organizations, and science and technology are extremely important, particularly for fostering research innovation across different sectors. Important areas include, for instance, agricultural research, which uses science and technology to increase production and improve quality.
Activities during the anniversary celebration also included the inauguration of the new Digital Repository building at INCT and Talk Show.
The session was attended by the Magnificent Rectors, national and international researchers, representatives from the Government, leaders and officials, as well as representatives from relevant institutions.
