Baucau, 30/08/2024: His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Culture, Dr. José Honório, participated in the ceremony celebrating the Day of the Popular Consultation (August 30) in Baucau Villa, Baucau Municipality.
Like other government members assigned to each municipality with their teams, the Minister jointly celebrated this national memorial day with the people of Timor-Leste.
The activities celebrating this national day began on August 28, 2024, with the presence of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Culture, Dr. José Honório, as the speaker at a seminar commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the Popular Consultation Day, with the theme: “The People Fought! The People Suffered! The People Won the Fight! The People Are the Great Heroes of Self-Determination!”
“In the interview following the Seminar session, His Excellency the Minister stated: ‘Through the Contribution decided by the People in the popular consultation with a total of 78.5%, the majority of Timorese want to be independent and free. Therefore, we all continue to work to develop our country, support each other, and work in all sectors to respond to what we can continue to contribute to our People.'”
In addition to this activity, His Excellency the Minister also participated in the launch of other activities, such as: talent competitions, marching band performances, motocross, sports games, and other activities. On August 29, 2024, His Excellency the Minister and his delegation continued to participate in a thanksgiving mass, and after the mass, the teams proceeded with laying flowers in cemeteries designated by the Organizing Committee, according to the agenda. These activities concluded with the solemn ceremony commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the Popular Consultation Day, at the Baucau Municipal Administration, on August 30, 2024.
The participation in the national day celebration in Baucau Municipality was directly accompanied by the President of the Baucau Municipal Authority (PAM), Mrs. Veneranda Lemos, who was also present along with heads, leaders, technicians, and officials from MESCC, including local authorities, security authorities, religious authorities, the community, and relevant institutions belonging to the referred municipality.
