Dili, 13/05/2024: His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Culture, Dr. JosΓ© HonΓ³rio, met with the candidates and families of scholars selected for the Cambodia scholarship program, held at the MESCC hall in Colmera, Dili.
The purpose of this meeting was to inform the scholars and their families about the educational system of the Cambodian government, in order to better prepare the candidates before they proceed with their studies in that country. Additionally, the meeting aimed to inform the families of the scholars about the rules and procedures of the scholarship program, so that parents understand and are well acquainted with the details of the scholarship in question.
The selected scholars were awarded the “Cambodia Timor-Leste Friendship Scholarship” program last year, offered by the University of Cambodia to Timor-Leste through the Partnerships and Cooperation Unit of the MESCC, with the offer of 10 scholarship positions for young Timorese in the fields of International Relations, Foreign Affairs, School Administration, and Information Technology.
Therefore, the government of Timor-Leste, through the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Culture, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the government of Cambodia last month in the field of Higher Education and technology, which will also include offers of scholarships to be made available by the said country to Timor-Leste to further strengthen the training and capacity building of human resources in Timor-Leste.
Furthermore, the Ministry also entered into a cooperation agreement with the University of Cambodia in the area of human resource development, through the provision of scholarships for Timorese to continue their studies in that country.
According to the plan, before moving to Cambodia soon, the candidates will undergo a new IELTS proficiency test, offered by the Ministry through the Partnerships and Cooperation Unit, to meet the language proficiency requirements before enrolling at the University in Cambodia.
Technicians and officials from the Ministry, along with the scholars and their families, attended this session.
