STUDY VISIT PRACTICES GENDER EQUALITY IMPLEMENTATION AT WARMADEWA UNIVERSITY

A delegation team from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Culture, consisting of the winners of the “Pathway to Equality” Proposal Contest from two Higher Education Institutions (Universidade da Paz and Instituto Politécnico de Betano), along with ministry technicians, conducted a short-term study visit to observe best practices related to the implementation of Gender Equality activities at Warmadewa University in Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia.

This activity took place over three days, from August 27 to 29, 2024, with the objective of further enhancing the technical knowledge and teaching skills of participants regarding best practices in implementing gender-related activities in Higher Education Institutions. The visit also aimed to contribute to strengthening their abilities to support programs and activities that will be implemented in the future.

The program’s activities included: on the first day, an opening session and a workshop focused on group discussions about Gender Equality issues at the University, featuring Prof. Ratna Ayu Widiaswari, S.H., M.H., an expert in the field of Gender Equality, and a speaker from MESSK, Mr. Júlio Guterres, who shared MESSK’s experience in implementing gender equality. The activities on the following two days included visits to associations and groups led by women at the University, a visit to Penglipuran Village to observe best practices in women’s involvement in village development and the tourism sector, contributing to the community’s economic development. Finally, the team visited the various faculties at the University and the University’s Study Center.

In this context, the Gender Equality officers from Universidade da Paz (Mr. Marito de Araujo) and Instituto Politécnico de Betano (Ms. Frangelina Xavier) expressed their enthusiasm for gaining experience through this visit to enhance their references for supporting the implementation of their activities in the coming years.

The sessions were attended by the Assistant to the Education Attaché of Timor-Leste in Bali and his team, the Vice-Rector of Warmadewa University, the Dean of the Faculty of Law and his staff, including faculty members and technicians.
