H.E. MINISTER JOSÉ HONORIO OPENS THE FIRST NATIONAL CONSULTATION SEMINAR ON OPEN SCIENCE

Dili, 17/02/2025: His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Culture, Dr. José Honório, presided over the opening of the First National Consultation Seminar on Open Science, organized by the National Institute of Science and Technology (INCT) in partnership with UNESCO Jakarta and the Timor-Leste National Commission for UNESCO (KNTLU), which took place at the Indonesian Cultural Centre in Balide-Dili.

In his speech, the Minister emphasized that this seminar is an important opportunity to establish a space for dialogue and reflection on the implementation of Open Science in Timor-Leste, following the recommendations approved by UNESCO in 2021, which aim to ensure that scientific knowledge is accessible to all.

The Minister also highlighted the need to strengthen institutional capacity for the management and preservation of knowledge, through the creation and expansion of digital repositories, open libraries and publicly accessible archives.

The seminar was attended by the President of the INCT Executive Board, the Vice-Coordinator for Open Science at UNESCO-Jakarta, researchers, teachers and students from higher education institutions, representatives of civil society, as well as INCT managers and technical staff.
