OFFICIAL MISSION TO INDONESIA STRENGTHENS COOPERATION IN HIGHER EDUCATION

January 5–7, 2026 — His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Culture, accompanied by a delegation from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Culture (MHESC), conducted an official mission to Indonesia, visiting Jember and Surabaya as part of efforts to strengthen international cooperation for the development of higher education in Timor-Leste, with a particular focus on science and technology.

In Jember, the delegation visited the Mandala Institute of Science and Technology, while in Surabaya it held institutional meetings with the State University of Surabaya (UNESA).

The meetings resulted in agreements to implement joint research programs, scholarships, faculty and student exchanges, and teacher training, in line with the strategic priorities defined by MHESC.

As an immediate outcome, MHESC was granted access to:

  • 100 scholarships (bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees) offered by UNESA in priority fields for Timor-Leste;
  • 20 scholarships (bachelor’s and master’s degrees) offered by the Mandala Institute of Science and Technology in the fields of computer science, health, and economics.

This mission represents another step toward strengthening partnerships between Timor-Leste and Indonesia in the field of higher education, contributing to the development of qualified human resources and advancing the country’s scientific and technological growth.
